Last updated: July 21, 2026

1. Agreement

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your download and use of the EditVolt desktop application ("the Software") and this website. By downloading, installing, or using the Software, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Software.

2. License

The Software is proprietary software, licensed, not sold. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Software on devices you own or control, for your own development work, subject to these Terms.

You may not: (a) copy the Software except as reasonably necessary for backup; (b) modify, adapt, or create derivative works of the Software; (c) redistribute, sell, rent, lease, sublicense, or otherwise make the Software available to third parties; (d) reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software, except to the extent applicable law expressly permits despite this restriction; or (e) remove or alter any proprietary notices in the Software.

The Software incorporates open-source components (including Code-OSS) that are licensed under their own terms. Those components' licenses and attributions are listed in the third-party notices distributed with the Software, and nothing in these Terms limits any rights those licenses grant you with respect to those components.

The EditVolt name and logo are trademarks of the EditVolt project and may not be used without permission.

3. Beta software

EditVolt is currently pre-release software. It may contain defects, change significantly between releases, or occasionally lose data. Keep your work under version control and back up anything important. Features described on this website may change or be removed before general availability.

4. AI features and generated content

The Software includes features powered by artificial-intelligence models, including models operated by third parties you choose to connect. You acknowledge and agree that:

5. Third-party services and your keys

The Software connects, at your direction, to third-party services — AI providers (such as Anthropic, Google, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint), the Open VSX extension marketplace, and package registries. Your use of each service is governed solely by that service's own terms, and:

6. Acceptable use

You agree to use the Software only in compliance with applicable law and with the acceptable-use policies of any AI provider you connect. You may not use the Software to develop or distribute malware, to infringe others' intellectual-property rights, or to violate the security of systems you are not authorized to access.

7. Privacy

EditVolt collects no telemetry or personal data. How the Software handles your data is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

8. Updates

The Software periodically checks our update server for new versions and may notify you or download updates. You can disable automatic updates in settings and install releases manually instead.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI output will be accurate or fit for any purpose.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE EDITVOLT PROJECT OR ITS CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY — INCLUDING INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR COSTS INCURRED WITH THIRD-PARTY SERVICES — ARISING FROM OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR ITS USE. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be noted in the release notes and reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Software after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Software shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.
